Trimsaran 15-9 Cefneithin

Trimsaran welcomed Cefneithin to Caeffair Saturday for their first home league game of the 2018/2019 season. Both teams experienced different opening games with Trim getting a superb 18-10 victory away to Llandybie and Cefn suffering a 19-9 home defeat by Betws. So in what was our first derby game of the season Cefn came looking for a positive response after experiencing their opening defeat. It was an even faired opening 20 minutes with much of the play being between both 22 meter lines. With a strong breeze and a downpour about 15 minutes into the game it made handling difficult and a lot of scrums as a result. Trimsaran showed some good attacking play with forwards and backs linking up well to gain the first penalty of the game which was converted by full back Daniel Griffiths. As happened many times last season after scoring points Trim made a mistake from the kick off and Cefnethin capitalised on it to get key territory and a couple of phases later they were then awarded their first kickable penalty of the game for hands in a ruck. They made no mistake and the game was level agin at 3-3. Trimsaran lost scrum half Ioan Jones to a blood injury which meant a reshuffle amongst the backs with outside half Corey Phillips moving to scrum half and replacement Phil Davies coming on at outside half. Both defences were holding strong but the first try game not long before half time when Phil Davies put a neat kick through and it beat the defence. Phil kicked the ball forward again and grounded the ball to score the first try. The conversion was successful and it left the half time score 10-3 to the home team.

Trimsaran were happy with their efforts in the first half playing against the wind and would have been confident of scoring a few tries as they kicked off the second half with the wind behind them. Stubborn resistance from the visitors however denied trim on more than a few occasions. Trim were even let off the hook as Cefn missed a penalty from infront of the posts as the ball fell from the tea as their kicker went to kick it.

With 10 minutes left Trimsaran managed to get their second try of the game through full back Dan Griffiths after a period of pressure on the visiting try line to all but take the game away from Cefn.

Cefn kicked a penalty with 5 minutes left to put themselves within 7 points to gain a losing bonus point. The remainder of the game was played out and Trim missed a penalty with nearly the last kick of the game but we're happy to gain a derby win.

It was a game played in difficult conditions which made handling difficult so it was a welcome 4 points to leave Trimsaran 2 from 2 in the new league campaign
