Victory secures Bowl 5th round place

Trimsaran travalled to Baglan on New Years Eve looking to finish the year off in style by securing their spot in the 5th round.

It was a very physical game against a big Baglan team who tried to bully Trim out of the game. A closely fought first half ended up 3-3 after a penalty apiece for both teams. Both teams had missed chances at the posts aswel , whilst Trim had the better chances at scoring a try but the final pass didnt go to plan and some good defence from Baglan kept the Green and Blacks out.

Midway through the 2nd half it seemed that once again ill discipline which is the story of Trims season would cost them any chance of victory as they went 9-3 behind. With about 20 minutes remaining Trim turned the tables and with their first visit in the Baglan 22 of the 2nd half Scrum Half Ioan Jones scored a try after the forwards had a maul pulled down about 5 meters out, this eas successfully converted by Dan Griffiths to give Trim the lead again for the first time of the game at 10-9.

Within minutes of taking the lead though they once again found themselves behind thanks to another penalty to Baglan. With Baglan controlling possession and territory heading into the final 5 minutes of the game, it seemed that Trimsarans dream of a magical cup run were heading to an end.

Trim had a scrum in their 22 which Baglan wheeled and led to a penalty to the visitors, which was cleared up to half way. Trim set up a Maul which Baglan collapsed illegally and Trim kicked their way into the home teams 22. Again setting up a maul from the lineout , Baglan illegally took it down again and this time received a yellow card from the referee which allowed Trim a magical moment to take the lead again, instead of opting for the posts they went for the lineout and once again set up a driving maul 10 meters out, the visitors charged their way towards the try line and with the support of their backs crashed themselves over the try line with the try awarded to captain Ryan Edwards. Trimsaran had 2 minutes to survive and secure a victory on the road . Baglan secured the kick off and had a penalty but couldnt opt for posts as the last play was called by the referee and a draw would have sent Trim through on tries scored so Baglan run the ball and after pushing for about 3 or 4 minutes of injury time to get a try which would have secured victory for the home team but some superb defence from the Green and Blacks secured a turnover ball when they held up an attacking play and set a maul up much to the delight of the strong travelling support.

After a grinding out a superb victory on the road we now face Swansea Uplands at home on the 14th January in the last 16 of the Bowl.
