Trimsaran 7-29 Amman United

Trimsaran welcomed Amman United to Caeffair in the first round of the Specsavers National Bowl. The road to Cardiff started here and both teams wanted to progress to the next round.

Trimsaran started the stronger and took an early 7-0 lead thanks to a try from flanker Nathan Jones after winger Tom Williams broke down the wing and popped the ball back on his inside shoulder. Corey Phillips was successful with his conversion attempt infront of the posts.

Trim started to push again but some handling errors stopped any potential progress to the Amman tryline they could have made. From the resulting scrum Amman were awarded a penalty and used this to their advantage to get some territory in the Trimsaran 22. It wasnt long until Amman drove themselves over the tryline and get themselves straight back into the game. Playing against the wind Amman started to get the better of Trim and their strong backs were breaking the gainline and this provided the platform for the visitors to score again and take a 12-7 lead.

Trim had one more chance before half time to get another score but the Amman defence held strong and the half time score remained 12-7 to the visitors.

Amman were reduced to 14 men early in the second half after a punch and Trim tried to take advantage of this but once again some strong Amman defence and simple errors allowed Amman to clear their lines and they were the ones who actually extended their lead by scoring another try after a scuffle broke out and the Trim defence was short out wide to go up 19-7. With 20 minutes remaining Trim knew they had to get some sort of score sooner rather than later or face elimination in the first round of the bowl. Some strong ball carrying got the green and blacks into the opposition 22 but a turnover again give Amman the chance to boot the ball down field. This was the last real chance Trim had in the game as Amman scored another try not long after this to take a deserved 26-7 lead. Now the game was gone Amman were taking advantage of Trim as another penalty was awarded to Amman and they took the 3 points to lead 29-7 with 5 minutes of play left. Both teams saw the game out and it was Amman who were deserved winners of the game after outplaying the green and blacks. We would like to wish Amman United all the best in the next round as our attention now turns back to the league as we welcome New Dock Stars to Caeffair this coming weekend.
