Trimsaran 20-19 Tumble

Trimsaran welcomed cwm gwendraeth rivals Tumble to Caeffair on Saturday. Trimsaran started the game on fire and dominated the opening 20 minutes territory and possession but the visitors held firm in defence and only conceded a penalty which outside half Corey Phillips slotted over to give his team a 3-0 lead. Soon after the ever reliable Trimsaran number 8 Steffan Roberts burst through the Tumble defence to score the first try of the game and with the conversion added by Corey Phillip's the score was now 10-0 to the home team. This kicked Tumble into life and they had their own burst of possession and territory which they used to their advantage as they scored their opening try of the game to reduce the deficit to 10-7. In an opening half which turned out to be a bit scrappy with a lot of scrums and resets the remaining 5 minutes of the first half saw Trim try to increase their lead through the power of their forwards but again the Tumble defence wasnt giving in and held the green and blacks out securing a key turnover to end the half.

Trim would have been hoping to have more of a lead having seen the majority of possession and territory in the 1st half.

The second half kicked off and the tides had turned now as Tumble started to control the game, kicking the ball to the corners and trying to play a territory game. The referee had enough of the constant chopsing and niggles from both sets of players and yellow carded both the Tumble number 3 and Trimsaran number 2 and captain Ryan Edwards after a little scuffle between the 2 broke out. Moments later the Tumble number 8 burst through a hole in the trim defence from the Trimsaran 10 yard and avoided the attempted tackles of about another 3 trimsaran players to score his teams 2nd try of the game and give Tumble the lead for the first time after 55 minutes. With the conversion successful tumble now led 14-10. This brought Trim to life now. The green and blacks secured a turnover from the kick off and 5 minutes later Steffan Roberts scored his and his teams 2nd try of the game to retake the lead. The difficult conversion was unsuccessful. This lead wasnt to last to long as 3 minutes later Tumble kicked the ball through and with what looked like enough cover defence there the visitors had the luck of the bounce and touched down for their 3rd try of the game. Time was running out now and with 17 minutes remaining and Tumble leading 19-15 Trim knew they had to score a try. After getting a penalty to secure good territory just outside the Tumble 5 yard line Trim lost the lineout but were lucky as Tumble had knocked it on in the process. Trim had the scrum 10 yards out and after having the upper hand in the scrums for a majority of the game the green and black drove Tumble over the line and this allowed Steffan Roberts to dot down for his and Trims 3rd try of the game as the home team retook the lead 20-19 with the conversion just fading to the left of the posts. There was 10 minutes left of this back and forth second half and the referee awarded Tumble a penalty and proceeded to yellow card Trimsaran number 8 Steffan Roberts for backchat which meant Trim would have to see their 1 point lead out for the remainder of the game down to 14 men. Tumble attempted the penalty kick but were unsuccessful. Tumble continued to apply pressure but Trim wernt prepared to let their lead slip and secured a penalty for holding on with 2 minutes left whilst defending in their 22. From the resulting lineout near the half way line Tumble were awarded a penalty kick which was then made a slightly easier attempt at the posts when Trim were again marched 10 yards back for answering back to the referee. With Tumble needing the penalty to win the game they opted to go for posts. Luckily for Trim the kick wasnt on target and the green and blacks had secured a good 20-19 home victory against rivals Tumble. Not the complete performance from Trimsaran but credit to some good Tumble defence for holding Trim out on crucial occasions. With this victory Trim moved top of the league , only 5 games gone however. Next week we travel to Penygroes.
