Penygroes 10-6 Trimsaran

After the heavy rain Friday and Saturday morning alot of games in Wales fell foul to the weather. However Penygroes vs Trimsaran was declared on much to the surprise of alot of people but to be fair the pitch was half decent just heavy underfoot. This was always going to make for a scrappy low scoring game and so thats what it turned out to be.

Playing against the wind in the first half Trimsaran controlled possession and territory for long periods but only had a penalty from Corey Phillips to show for it as they led 3-0 approaching half time. Penygroes started to apply some pressure towards the end of the first half and after keeping out the home team some missed tackles led to Penygroes scoring the games first try. with the conversion missed it was 5-3 to Penygroes at half time.

The second half was pretty much the same as the first half with a very scrappy game and alot of handling errors and turnovers from both teams. Trim took the lead 5 minutes into the second half with Corey Phillips kicking his second penalty of the game. Unfortunately 2 further penalties werent succesful and with the chance to extend Trims lead was missed. These were difficult kicks especially in the conditions. Penygroes were given a penalty and instead of going for the points they opted for a lineout, trim managed to hold them up over the line and from the resulting scrum 5 yards out Penygroes scored their second try of the game to retak the lead 10-6. This is how the score remained for the remainder of the game as Penygroes secured a victory against Trimsaran. The result knocked Trim off top spot as the unbeaten Amman United returned top after beating Bynea in the only other game in our league to survive the weather.

This result will severely dent the green and blacks hopes of defending their West Wales Plate, with nothing other than victories in their next 2 league games will be enough to see them qualify for the last 4. Depending on results elsewhere with the teams involved this may not even be enough to qualify. The Semi finals for the West Wales Plate are decided based on the first 4 league home and first 4 league away games. We welcome top of the table Amman United to Caeffair in our next game on the 9th November in a 2nd vs 1st clash.

No game this weekend due to the world cup final!
